Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids that interact with receptors in the brain and around the body. The receptors that are primarily concentrated in the brain and central nervous system are known as CB1. The receptors localized in the immune and digestive systems are called CB2. Both CBD and THC are derived from the cannabis plant and both synthesized from the same compound during the plant’s lifecycle. CBGa is the precursor to all naturally occurring cannabinoids including, CBD and THC.

Dronabinol and nabilone are used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy. Dronabinol is also used to treat loss of appetite and weight loss in people with HIV/AIDS. The FDA has not approved the cannabis plant for any medical use. However, the FDA has approved several drugs that contain individual cannabinoids. The valid concern on CBD getting one high is especially important because the psychoactive effects of the marijuana plant are considered illegal under certain federal laws. In addition, both THC and CBD are consideredphytocannabinoids. This term defines the specific plant-based metabolites found in cannabis, which are the specific compounds processed by the body to obtain their benefits. As phytocannabinoids, both THC and CBD are metabolized in the liver, through the same bodily processes.

Our team of cannabis professionals collectively share years of experience in all corners of the market, from growing and retail, to science and medicine, to data and technology. Keep in mind that CBD levels may vary from crop to crop—even from plant to plant. We also recommend checking with dispensaries about the specifics of their strains’ CBD levels. It’s always a good idea to purchase only lab-tested products that clearly state the CBD/THC levels so you know what kind of experience to expect. Terpenes are active chemical compounds in cannabis that contain the same aromatic oils found in plants, trees, flowers, and herbs. However, like cannabinoids, terpenes are produced by the trichomes, the frosty resin glands on the outside of the bud.

The ECS uses endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors continuously to make required adjustments to keep multiple functions balanced. CBD doesn’t get attached effectively like THC to the endocannabinoid system that regulates sleep, appetite, and immune system. When the CB1 receptor is activated, it creates a psychoactive effect.

CBC is another cannabinoid made from CBG with some important effects. Like CBN, CBC is a powerful antibiotic, shown to help with infections that are resistant to other treatments. In one study, researchers were able to delay ALS onset for mice using CBN, but human studies are needed to confirm this potential use.

Likewise, research suggests that for treating certain types of pain, an added dose of THC may be more effective than CBD alone. In other words, there are justified reasons why a patient would want cannabis oil that contains THC. Tetrahydrocannabivarin is the next minor cannabinoid on our list.

This observation was confirmed at the mRNA level as well as with CB1R immunoreactivity in several transgenic HD mouse models (reviewed in ). Delayed loss of CB1Rs in HD transgenic mice R6/1 was seen in enriched environment, accompanied by delayed onset of motor disorders and disease progression . Selective increase in CB1R expression in MSNs improves the survival of excitatory projection neurons, but does not promote the motor performances of HD transgenic R6/2 mice . Administration of THC has been reported to ameliorate motor disorders, striatal atrophy, and Htt aggregates in transgenic mice, although controversy exists .

He enjoys his leisure time visiting the people suffering neurological conditions and advises them on the best practices that can change their lives. When THC gets released into your blood and swims quickly upstream, it reaches your brain in a matter of seconds affecting brain cell receptors responsible for everyday functionality. THC then follows the body’s natural cannabinoid and gets itself attached to the cannabinoid receptors. These compounds get attached to neurotransmitters in the brain to affect mood, pain, sleep, and memory. Their interaction affects the release of neurotransmitters in the brain.

We aim to empower people who want to learn about available solutions for their specific medical conditions, as well as for those seeking wellness and a healthy lifestyle alternative. Therefore, CB1R could control appetite from the hypothalamus in the CNS and regulate the energy balance and food intake from the GI tract as well. Intriguingly, hepatic CB1R also participates in the regulation of energy balance and metabolism, but in an unusual way. Similarly, the CB1R is upregulated in the cardiovascular system under pathological conditions, which in turn, promotes disease progression and cardiac dysfunction .

In fact, CBGA is the accelerator of other cannabinoids, as it transforms into cannabidiolic acid , cannabichromenic acid , and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid .

A family of some 150 natural compounds, cannabinoids interface with our bodies through a network called the Endocannabinoid System . And while the ECS was only identified in the past several decades, some research suggests that it’s one of our body’s most important regulatory networks.
